In an effort to maintain consistent knowledge of tuna stocks, the Regional Fisheries Management Organization’s (RFMO) adopted conservation and management measures. This included the creation of the statistical document program, used as a tool to assist in the regulation and improvement of the quality, availability and transparency of data as it relates to the origin and trade of tuna and tuna like catches. The statistical document is considered a powerful instrument which assists in combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities, tracking international trade and accurately managing scientific evaluation of regulated stocks.
Fishing vessels known to engage in trade of tuna and tuna like species in regulated areas shall submit application, when required, for further review and approval by this administration.
A small fee is applicable for obtainment of said documentation.
